Hunting for Retro Inspiration: A Campervan Escape

There’s a special kind of quiet that comes from pulling away in the campervan — that soft hum of the engine, the gentle rattle of mugs in the cupboard, and the feeling that the world is about to open up in front of you. This time, we’re heading out with a mission stitched into the journey itself, to hunt for retro inspiration.

Not the polished, curated kind. The real stuff. The kind you stumble across when you’re not looking too hard.

Letting the Road Lead the Way

There’s no strict route. No deadlines. Just the two of us, a van that’s older than some of our playlists, and a shared curiosity for anything with a hint of nostalgia. We’re chasing colour palettes from old shopfronts, typography from forgotten signs, and textures that feel like they’ve lived a life before we arrived.

The joy is in the wandering — in letting the road decide what we see next.

Finding Retro in the Everyday

Retro inspiration hides in the most ordinary places:

  • A faded mural on the side of a café

  • A charity shop shelf stacked with mismatched treasures

  • A petrol station frozen in time

  • A seaside arcade still buzzing with 80s energy

Every stop becomes a tiny time capsule, waiting to be opened

The Van as a Creative Cocoon

Our campervan isn’t just transport — it’s a moving studio. A place to scribble ideas, snap photos, and collect the little details that spark something bigger later on. There’s something grounding about brewing a cup of coffee with the doors open, sketchbook on your lap, and the world just… happening around you.

Slow travel has a way of making inspiration feel effortless.

Why Retro?

Because retro design carries stories. It’s imperfect in the best way — bold, playful, and full of character. It reminds us that creativity doesn’t always need to be polished. Sometimes it just needs to be honest.

What We Hope to Bring Back

By the time we roll home, we want our heads full of ideas, our camera full of colour, and our hearts a little lighter. Maybe we’ll return with a few vintage finds we absolutely didn’t need. Maybe we’ll come back with nothing but memories and a notebook full of sketches.

Either way, the journey itself is the inspiration.

Let us know if you would like some updates as to where are are and what inspiration we have found?
